Which in Adman's SeaMonkey is at Edit -> Mail & Newsgroup Account
Settings, select 'Server Settings' on your News Account and place a tick
against "Always request Authentication ......".

Welcome!

To see all groups, you maybe need to enable "Always authenticate" in
the account settings of your newsreader.
